Effect of an avocado peel polyphenolic extract rich in proanthocyanidins on fecal and cecal production of protein bacterial metabolites and fecal and cecal microbiota composition.. PAC study

We evaluated the effect of a proanthocyanidin-rich avocado peel polyphenol extract (AvPPE) on the production of deleterious protein bacterial metabolites by human fecal microbiota cultured for 24h in a bioreactor in the presence of high protein (HP) levels, and the detrimental effect of the resulting culture supernatants on colonic HT-29Glc-/+ and Caco-2 cells. Furthermore, we evaluated the effect of the AvPPE on the production of cecal metabolites and composition of cecal microbiota of rats feed with a HP diet.
