Abbreviated terms in the sheet: CTL: control; LF: lactoferrin (bovine); HLF: heated lactoferrin (100°C heated for 3 min); OGD: oxygen and glucose deprivation <br>Briefly, PC-12 cells were incubated with RPMI-1640 glucose-free medium in an special incubator with 95% N<sub>2</sub> and 5% CO<sub>2</sub> at 37°C for 2 h, and then, this medium was replaced with the normal PRMI-1640 medium (with glucose), and cell plates were moved to a 5% CO<sub>2 </sub>incubator for another 2 h incubation. In lactoferrin treatment groups, lactoferrin working solutions were added into the cell wells 4 h before replacement with RPMI-1640 glucose-free medium, and the subsequent procedures were the same with OGD group. Metabolites in PC-12 cells were separated and identified by liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry.<br><br> Those identified metabolites with vip value > 1.0 and p value < 0.05 were regarded as significantly different metabolites. <br><br> Control: PC-12 cells were incubated with RPMI-1640 medium in regular 5% CO<sub>2 </sub>incubator;LF: PC-12 cells were incubated with RPMI-1640 medium (containing 1 mg/mL lactoferrin) in regular 5% CO<sub>2 </sub>incubator;HLF: PC-12 cells were incubated with RPMI-1640 medium (containing 1 mg/mL 100°C heated lactoferrin) in regular 5% CO<sub>2 </sub>incubator;OGD: oxygen and glucose deprivation (RPMI-1640 glucose-free medium, and in an special incubator with 95% N<sub>2</sub> and 5% CO<sub>2</sub>); OGD+LF: PC-12 cells were treated with lactoferrin (1 mg/mL in RPMI-1640 medium) 4 h before OGD treatment; OGD+HLF: PC-12 cells were treated with 100°C heated lactoferrin (1 mg/mL in RPMI-1640 medium) 4 h before before OGD treatment. <br>
