<p>This data collection contains information on personnel in the Federal workforce. It was conducted by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). The variables include occupation, work schedule, pay grade, detailed salary variables, retention allowance, and veteran status. Note: According to correspondence received from OPM, many classes of Federal civilian employees are exluded from the central personnel data file; for example, employees of the postal service, Central Intelligence Agency, Department of Defense, the White House. Archive staff can supply a list of these exclusions on request. The record layout and Standad Code Translation list are the only documentation provided by the originating agency.</p>
