Viral metagenomic sequencing was performed to characterize the DNA and RNA viral communities in the samples. Briefly, viral particles were concentrated from the samples, followed by nucleic acid extraction (DNA for DNA virome, RNA for RNA virome) and library construction. The libraries were sequenced on an Illumina platform to generate paired-end reads.
