Goddess of Democracy

33 years ago, the Goddess of Democracy was first contructed in Tiananmen Square to boost the morales of the pro-democracy demonstration. The statue was promptly destroyed by the government, along with the lives of so many students who fought for freedom. The brutal regime responsible still reigns over China today, however, as the original creators of the Goddess declared: "… as a symbol of the people's hearts, she is divine and inviolate… Erect the statue of the Goddess of Democracy in your millions of hearts! Long live the people! Long live freedom! Long live democracy!" Using archival photos, I tried to recreate the original sculpt as faithfully as possible.
