Diploid genome assembly using PacBio data of avian models for vocal learning. Calypte anna, Taeniopygia guttata

Diploid genome assemblies were generated using PacBio long-read sequencing for two avian models of vocal learning, neuroscience and genomics, zebra finch (Taeniopygia guttata) and Anna's hummingbird (Calypte anna). This study compares these new high-quality assemblies to the current Sanger-based (Zebra finch) and Illumina-based (Anna's Hummingbird) in terms of overall assembly quality and resolution of genes important in neuroscience research.
