Digital Archive from an Archaeological Evaluation and Excavation at Former Blundeston Prison, Blundeston, Suffolk, 2020

This collection consists of images, spreadsheets, databases and GIS data from an archaeological evaluation and excavation by Cotswold Archaeology. Work occurred at the site of the former prison at Blundeston, Suffolk in 2020. The archaeological evaluation was carried out in February and March 2020, A total of twenty-seven trenches were excavated, ten within the prison perimeter fence and seventeen outside it, to the north and east. Archaeological deposits, comprising three pits, six postholes and sixteen ditches, were present in nine of the trenches. The subsequent excavation was conducted between May and July 202. Two areas of archaeological significance were identified and subsequently recorded during open area excavation. A series of ditches and small enclosures were present in the main excavation area, most of which are likely to be associated with phases of medieval field systems.
