Observations of Astrid, Sanae, and Mertz emperor penguin colonies, 1984-2024; Distances to fast ice edge

.xlsx files containing a catalogue of all dates the Sanae, Astrid, and Mertz colonies were observed in remote sensing imagery, as per Macdonald et al. (in review), 'Response of emperor penguins to 40 years of changing ice conditions at the Astrid, Mertz, and Sanae colonies using satellite remote sensing (1984-2024)'. The dataset catalogues all dates when there was an image of some usefulness and records whether guano was present or not at the site, and which surface type the guano was on, as indicated by an 'x' in the relevant cell. A '~' indicates that it was not clearly visible (primarily due to cloud), but was visible nevertheless. UploadDistanceToFastIce.zip contains shapefiles for all measurements of the estimated (travelable) distance to the fast ice edge from the colonies, as presented in fig. 7. The Landsat and MODIS images used for the calculation are also included. These images were produced by NASA and were sourced from https://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/ and worldview.earthdata.nasa.gov, respectively, and their use is subject to any terms stipulated at those sites.
