Domestic overnight stays in Italy 2015-2020, by accommodation type

The number of domestic overnight stays in hotel facilities in Italy decreased sharply during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020 over the previous year. Overall, hotels in Italy recorded roughly 87 million domestic overnight stays in 2020, dropping from over 140 million in 2019. Meanwhile, domestic overnight stays in non-hotel facilities declined as well, though less dramatically, passing from nearly 76 million in 2019 to around 57 million in 2020.
