This dataset supports the study titled “Metal-driven anaerobic oxidation of methane and the Sturtian deglaciation”, which provide geochemical evidence for a methane-related biogeochemical pathway driving Fe-bearing mineral transformation via methanogenesis and metal-driven anaerobic methane oxidation (AOM), mediated by methanogens and anaerobic methane-oxidizing archaea (ANME) in ferruginous settings.
Supplementary Data 1–6 comprise geochemical datasets including major and trace element concentrations, and Fe (δ56Fe) and Ni (δ60Ni) isotope compositions of hematite and magnetite, as well as bulk-rock and in situ carbon (δ13C) isotope data from Mn-rich carbonates from five well-preserved Sturtian-aged IFs in South China.
The Source Data file contains the raw numerical values underlying all scatter plots and box plots presented in the main text and supplementary figures.
