Share of industrial chemical waste managed in the U.S. 2022, by sector

In 2022, a total of 28.57 billion pounds of production-related TRI-listed chemical waste were managed in the United States. The chemical manufacturing sector was responsible for over 54 percent of this total. Chemicals covered by the U.S. EPA Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) Program include those that impact both human health and the environment.
