Identification of genes involved in the catabolism of quinic acid by Aspergillus niger

This study used transcriptomic analysis to predict genes involved in the catabolism of quinic acid in Aspergillus niger. One experiment invovled the deletion of the quinic acid pathway transcriptional repressor, QutX. Regulation of quinic acid utilization is controlled by an activator-repressor module. Deletion of the repressor leads to constitutive expression of quinic acid utilization genes. A second experiment examined genes upregulated in response to quinic acid as the sole carbon source. Genes upregulated in both experiments were candidates for further analysis to identify the genes of this pathway.
