Digital Archive from Geophysical Survey and Archaeological Evaluation Work at Burrough House, Northam, Devon, 2015 to 2016

This collection comprises images, site records, GIS and Geophysics from a Geophysical Survey and an Archaeological Evaluationon land at Burrough House, Northam, Devon. This work was undertaken by South West Archaeology Ltd between November 2015 and August 2016. The archaeological evaluation targeted the anomalies that were identified by a geophysical survey that was carried out by SWARCH in 2015. The archaeological evaluation largely validated the results of the geophysical survey. It identified two probable medieval ditches and, to some degree, it clarified the life-cycle of an extant medieval bank that was altered during the post medieval period. The poor state of survival of the probable medieval ditches is indicative of severe truncation by ploughing and it is likely that any potential shallow archaeological features or remains would not have survived. The extant medieval bank appears to have once been a prominent boundary that became incorporated into the field to its south whilst its northern face/slope remained to define the northern field/garden of Burrough House. The majority of the extant medieval bank and the northern field will be in the rear gardens of some of the proposed houses
