A case study on the effects of logging roads on the soil microbial communities, and the carbon and nitrogen cycle components within an upland forest ecosystem in the Northern Zone of Costa Rica.

We report differences in the bacterial and fungal genera using NGS methods on eDNA from3 different tropical soils along a disturbance gradient. We found that development of tropical logging roads alters the soil bacterial and fungal community composition such that these communities are less efficient at use of organic C for biomass development and are also associated with altered N cycle activities.
