Jornada Experimental Range Quadrants

The "Jornada Experimental Range Quadrats" data contains reduced-scale maps of
vegetation on one-meter by one-meter areas were made with a pantograph. A
planimeter was used to measure the basal area of grasses and canopy cover of
shrubs. This information was then recorded on maps. These data were collected
to assess changes in vegetation due to precipitation and livestock grazing on
the Jornada Experimental Range near Las Cruces, New Mexico

Collection Methodology: Reduced-scale maps of vegetation on 1m by 1m areas
were made with a pantograph. A planimeter was used to measure basal area of
grasses and canopy cover of shrubs and this was recorded on maps.
