This dataset includes quantitative and qualitative data from 138 Malaysian learners of Chinese as an additional language (CAL), examining engagement with AI-mediated informal digital learning (AI-IDLC). Quantitative data include survey responses on AI features, learner engagement, satisfaction, readability, flow, and communication quality. Qualitative data include learners’ reflections on AI use, autonomous practice, and instructor support. The data can support research on AI in informal language learning and related learner experiences.
