Foreign body infection following Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infection: Host risk factors and bacterial genetic characteristics

We retrospectively selected patients hospitalized with a Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia (SAB) and carrying FB, from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2021. Patients with foreign body (FB) implanted less than one-year earlier were excluded. Factors associated with FB infection were assessed with multivariable logistic regression analyses. Bacterial determinants (lineage and virulence factors) were determined using whole genome sequencing.
