Land-Use Harmonization 2 for Global Carbon Budget 2025 (LUH2-GCB2025)

The Land-Use Harmonization 2 (LUH2) dataset is updated every year for use in the annual Global Carbon Budget (GCB) simulations and publications. The LUH2-GCB2025 dataset represents the land-use data used by DGVMs and book-keeping models in the GCB 2025. It is extended to the current year using new input data from FAO and other sources, and extends historical trends for years without underlying input data. In particular, it incorporates new HYDE land-use data as a key input, continues to provide improved representation of deforestation in Brazil and Indonesia by using the latest versions of MapBiomas remote sensing data, and it improves cropland areas in China using data from Yu et al. 2022.
