The Tempo pig is a breed developed by Topigs Norsvin over the 49 years since the 1970s, renowned for its white coat color, rapid growth rate, high meat yield, and excellent feed-to-meat conversion ratio. In China, the popularity of Tempo pigs has been surging, yet their offspring exhibit heightened stress responsiveness and compromised meat quality, including lighter meat color and increased water loss. Currently, it remains unclear whether specific genes are linked to this stress response and deteriorated meat quality, while their genomic composition and genes selected during the breeding process remain largely uncharacterized. Our study investigates the population structure, phylogenetic relationships, and genetic diversity of Tempo pigs. Furthermore, by employing selective sweep and haplotype analysis, we aim to identify genes associated with the key economic traits of Tempo pigs.
