OES Bead Measurement Data Western Cape

This database was created as part of the 2024 Masters Thesis: <i>An Investigation of OES Bead Size Variability and Introduction of Cup Morphology</i> by Nicola Wells (Supervisors Assoc Prof Deano Stynder and Dr Wendy Black).The database includes the following information about the OES bead/preform samples collected for the study:<b>General Site </b>(name of the site); <b>Identifier </b>(information listed on the bag or box from which the sample was obtained, typically including the square and/or layer associated with the sample. If the sample was a preform, the stage number was also provided. In cases where multiple samples belonged to the same stage, unique numbers were assigned to each); <b>Specific Site Location </b>(the square or site designation or year of excavation); <b>Additional Info </b>(site name, possible bag descriptions that were too long for the identifier, stage of manufacture, Cup description); <b>Uncal Date</b> (associated layer date where applicable); <b>Approx Date </b>(the bracketed date range for the sample); <b>Stage </b>(stage of manufacture of the sample according to Orton (2008)); <b>Bead Diameter </b>(in mm); <b>Aperture Diameter</b> (in mm); <b>Cup Diameter Side 1 </b>(cuticle surface, in mm); <b>Cup Diameter Side 2</b> (mammillary surface, in mm); <b>Shell Thickness </b>(in mm) <b>References</b>
