There were more than 4,850 hydroelectric power plants in Italy in 2023. Approximately 1,090 of them were located in the northern region of Piedmont. Regions in the north of Italy typically had more hydroelectric power plants, especially when compared to regions in the south such as Apulia, where there were only 10.
