Photovoice and focus group data of underserved communities to examine social determinates of health

Black and Asian communities along the Mississippi Gulf Coast experience the disproportionate burden of respiratory illnesses and are uniquely vulnerable to climate change effects, including increased air pollution, extreme weather events, environmental degradation, and poor mental health. Student researchers facilitated Photovoice and focus groups to identify existing public health data gaps, gather lived experiences, and learn about historical and current health issues as it relates to the effects of natural disasters on health. This was a community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach to engage affected communities.
