Reaction of a carbene precursor containing an anthracene fluorophore and two N-picolyl moieties with Hg(OAc)2 produces the title complex. X-ray studies and UV−vis and fluorescence spectroscopy confirm that a strong interaction exists between the mercury atom and anthracene.
