We plan to measure in-situ solid-solid and solid-liquid phase transitions in Fe-Si-C. One objective is to determine the crystallinity and transformation nature of graphite during the eutectic and eutectoid transformations and its relation with the γ-Fe and α-Fe. Graphite is a fundamental part of this alloy, and its morphology depends on the cooling rate and the elements present, like Si. The structure of graphite has been demonstrated to be turbostratic, but this conclusion is based only on the room temperature transmission electron microscopy (TEM) measurements (see Figure 1). The growth kinetics is still not yet understood.
