CDC\ATSDR Social Vulnerability Index 2020 - Minnesota

Social vulnerability refers to the potential negative effects on communities caused by external stresses on human health. Such stresses include natural or human-caused disasters, or disease outbreaks. Reducing social vulnerability can decrease both human suffering and economic loss. The CDC/ATSDR Social Vulnerability Index (CDC/ATSDR SVI) uses 16 U.S. census variables to help local officials identify communities that may need support before, during, or after disasters. The four summary theme ranking variable: 1. Socioeconomic Status – RPL_THEME1 2. Household Characteristics – RPL_THEME2 3. Racial & Ethnic Minority Status – RPL_THEME3 4. Housing Type & Transportation – RPL_THEME4 Possible scores range from 0 (lowest vulnerability) to 1 (highest vulnerability). RPL_THEMES provides the overall ranking based on above 4 parameters. SVI data will be updated every 2 years.
