This dataset includes 188 Chinese policies with a focus on outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) published between 1979 and 2019. The dataset provides: *the Chinese and English policy name *the date of policy announcement *the date of policy effectiveness *a summary of each individual policy *the government organization publishing the policy *the policy instruments of each published document *the status of the policy *links to precursor and successor policies *information on the aim of the policy *information on the overall policy sentiment towards Chinese OFDI *information on whether or not the policy is targeted at a specific policy recipient group
