Drainage ditches in agricultural areas are often subjected to anthropogenic nitrogen input leading to eutrophication and greenhouse gas emission. This methane (CH4) and nitrate (NO3-) rich environment creates suitable conditions for microbially mediated nitrate-dependent anaerobic methane oxidation (N-DAMO) offering a promising water bioremediation strategy. In this study we aimed to evaluate the potential of N-DAMO to remove access NO3- and decrease CH4 release from agriculture-affected drainage ditches.
