Pineconefish generate bioluminescence via symbiotic association with luminescent bacteria, however how this relationship is formed is unknown. In order gain insight into the molecular basis for this vertebrate-prokaryote symbiosis, we have performed sequencing of the pineconefish transcriptome and genome.
