This study compares taxonomic and functional sequence data collected from the rhizosphere of trees planted in monoculture and mixed species plots. Soil samples were collected from an experimental site in Lake Waikare, New Zealand. The taxonomic composition was determined using 16S and ITS rRNA amplicon sequencing while the functional potential of the samples were determined using shotgun metagenomic sequencing.
