Autonomous driving technology is increasingly regarded as a promising pathway to advance sustainable urban transportation. This study evaluates the societal impact of Baidu\u2019s Apollo Go autonomous ride-hailing platform in relation to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11, with particular emphasis on mobility, environmental sustainability, and inclusiveness. To capture public perception, user comments were collected from Xiaohongshu, Tencent News, and Toutiao, and analyzed using the BERTopic (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers Topic Modeling) method. The extracted topics reflect major public concerns, which were further assessed alongside operational indicators and third-party data on air quality, safety records, and service affordability. Results suggest that Apollo Go contributes positively to SDG 11.2 (transport accessibility), 11.6 (environmental impact), and 11.7 (inclusive public spaces), while limitations remain in equity and environmental performance. Subgroup analyses of comments from women and persons with disabilities provide additional insights into inclusivity and accessibility challenges. Overall, the findings indicate that Apollo Go demonstrates strong potential to promote sustainable urban mobility; however, continued refinement is required to ensure equitable service distribution and long-term environmental benefits. These insights can inform the deployment and regulation of autonomous ride-hailing services, while also guiding broader strategies aimed at enhancing transport equity, reducing environmental burdens, and fostering inclusive urban mobility systems.
