Klebsiella variicola 8917 was isolated from a sputum sample. This strain displays the hypermucoviscous (HMV) phenotype, however we unknown the mechanism involved. The aim of this study was to assess the role of its plasmid (p8917) over the HMV phenotype, virulence and capsule production.
