Total RNA was isolated using a Trizol/chloroform extraction and reverse transcribed from Hyalella azteca amphipods of mixed age and sex. cDNA was then sequenced using an Illumina HiSeq1500 instrument at the University of Maryland Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research Sequencing Core. These assembled transcriptome data will provide useful baseline transcript sequences and expression profiles to inform future detailed studies on gene expression alteration due to freshwater and sediment contamination in Hyalella azteca.
