For more than half of U.S. consumers that had bought sporting goods in the past two years, comfort and high quality were the most important factors. Other leading factors when buying sports items in 2021 included the design, durability, and the price of the product. Sporting goods shoppers in the United States When asked what kinds of sporting goods they had purchased in the past two years, roughly six in 10 Americans said they had acquired athletic footwear. During that same measured period, about a third of consumers in the United States purchased sports gear or equipment. In particular, the country’s most popular sports gear items included balls, workout equipment, as well as bicycles. Shopping considerations in the UK In 2021, shoppers in the United Kingdom (UK) had many of the same requirements when buying sporting goods. Just like Americans, sporty people in the UK found comfort the most important factor during the purchasing process. One of the largest distinctions between both markets comes down to attitudes regarding price: to approximately 40 percent of UK respondents, a low-price tag was a major deciding factor, while only 35 percent of U.S. respondents felt the same way.
