Simulation data for "Investigating the Relationship Between Sea Surface Temperature and the Mechanical Efficiency of Tropical Cyclones"

This repository contains the following data and files used to run the axisymmetric simulations in Régibeau-Rockett et al. (in review): "Investigating the Relationship Between Sea Surface Temperature and the Mechanical Efficiency of Tropical Cyclones":

1) Input files to use to rerun our axisymmetric simulations. For each constant-SST simulation, the following input is available:

a. namelist.input file

b. 5 restart files

c. input_sounding file constructed from an RCE simulation

The SST corresponding to each of these files is denoted by the number added to the end of the file, e.g.: the namelist.input file for the 305K simulation is named namelist.input_305K and the one of the restart files is named cm1rst_000001_x_305K.dat instead of cm1rst_000001_x.dat.

NOTE: In order to use these files to run the simulations, the added SST label at the end of each file must be removed first. In the previous example, the '_305K' would need to be removed from the end of the file names.

2) First 13 snapshots of data from the majority of the simulations. Unfortunately, this data has been lost for a subset of the simulations (SST=295.5K-297.5K). However, this loss does not affect the ability of a user to reproduce the analyses in our manuscript. As with the files described above, the SST corresponding to each of these files is appended to the end of the file and must be removed before these files are used.

3) As in 1) and 2), but for the simulation with 500 parcels. In addition, there are restart files for day 50, when the 2-day period analyzed in this simulation began. There are two namelist.input files for this simulation. The first begins on day 1 and runs through day 100 (namelist.input_Parcels_1) and the second begins on day 50 and runs until the end of the 2-day analysis period on day 52 (namelist.input_Parcels_2). All files for the 500 parcels simulation have the text "_Parcels" appended to the file name. This text must be removed from the file name before the files are used.

4) One modified source code file used in compiling version 20.2 of the Bryan Cloud Model 1 (CM1), init3d.F. If CM1 is recompiled without the use of this modified source file, any simulations that are run using the resulting executable file will not be identical to our simulations.
