资源简介:

This article investigates the stylistic, structural, lexical and pragmatic characteristics of publicistic texts in British and Uzbek digital newspapers, focusing on the Uzbek news platform Kun.uz and selected British online news outlets, particularly The Guardian and BBC News. The study examines how linguistic choices, headline construction, information sequencing, quotation practices, evaluative language and culturally conditioned discourse conventions contribute to the presentation of news in two distinct linguistic and journalistic environments. Drawing on theories of functional stylistics, critical discourse analysis, genre analysis and contrastive linguistics, the research proposes a comparative framework for identifying similarities and differences between English-language and Uzbek-language newspaper discourse. Particular attention is devoted to the inverted-pyramid structure, the relationship between factual reporting and interpretation, institutional attribution, sentence complexity and the translation of culturally specific terminology. The article distinguishes between general characteristics of journalistic traditions and features requiring verification through systematic corpus analysis. It argues that the comparison of British and Uzbek digital journalism offers valuable insights into the interaction between linguistic structure, editorial conventions, cultural expectations and translation strategies. The findings are relevant to comparative stylistics, media discourse studies and the teaching of English–Uzbek journalistic translation.
