Given the important role of gut microbiota in maintenance of BA metabolism,we hypothesized that gut dysbiosis might contribute to excessive BA excretion in IBS-D. To investigate this hypothesis, BA-6 related metabolomic and metagenomic analyses were performed in an IBS-D cohort. This study identified that gut dysbiosis, specifically the Clostridia-rich enterotype contributes to the phenotypes of IBS-D, providing evidence for a microbiota-driven pathogenesis for IBS-D.
