Randomness is the basis of security, privacy, trust and fairness. Cryptographic methods become vulnerable if the underlying randomness is weak or could be biased by the users of the system. Numerous applications rely on “Publicly verifiable randomness” (PVR), where randomness is extracted from a publicly accessible process or object, the output of which can be verified by third parties. With this proposal we wish to determine which pulsars would be most suitable if we wish to produce PVR through observations of pulsars.

随机性是安全性、隐私性、可信性与公平性的根基。若底层随机性偏弱,或被系统使用者蓄意操控偏移,密码学方法便会变得脆弱易受攻击。诸多应用均依赖于「可公开验证随机性(Publicly Verifiable Randomness,PVR)」——即从公开可访问的流程或对象中提取随机性,且其输出可由第三方验证。本研究提案旨在确定:若通过脉冲星观测生成可公开验证随机性,那么哪些脉冲星最为适用。
