Main bulk cargo in international maritime trade 1970-2021

The evolution of main bulk cargo in international seaborne trade from 1970 through 2021 indicates a general upward trend. In 2021 the world's merchant fleet was loaded with approximately 3.3 billion tons of seaborne main bulk commodities. The term “main bulks” includes iron ore, grain, and coal. Before 2006, the term included bauxite/alumina and phosphate rock as well.
