Geographic Information Librarianship 2023

The data are from a survey of current workers to inform the understanding of map and GIS librarianship (Geographic Information Librarianship). The survey is 21 questions to validate the competencies with current professionals in map and geospatial data roles to rank the importance of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform job tasks. Survey validation findings indicate the most important knowledge needed for these jobs are service oriented responsibilities like research support, reference services, outreach, and forms of instruction along with general cartographic and geospatial competencies. <br>Participants were recruited via email to the following listservs; MAPS-L, a discussion list for map librarians, librarians dealing with cartographic information, cartographers, people working with remote sensing, geographers, and other people interested in cartographic materials and GIS4LIB, a discussion list related to geographic information systems (GIS) in libraries. The consent form told participants that the data will be openly available via the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR).<br>
