We sequenced the genome of a marsupial glider from the US pet trade using 10X Genomics Linked Read technology in order to facilitate functional genomic studies of gliding membrane (patagium) evolution and development. Pet gliders are commonly referred to as 'sugar gliders' and have historically been assigned to Petaurus breviceps. However, taxonomy of the Petaurus is currently in flux. Therefore, we initially presented this assembly as Petaurus sp.
