Natural Ecosystems Validation Data Set

This is an independent global validation data set of natural vs non-natural ecosystems. The definitions are given in the pdf document. The total number of sample sites is 4,943. Originally, there were 5,000 sites but as some locations fell outside of terrestrial areas, e.g., in marine waters, these were omitted from the final sample. The data set is in latitude/longitude, in a WGS84 geographic projection. The table below lists the names of the fields in the data set and a description of what is contained in each field. Each sample site is a cluster of 3 x 3 pixels at 30 m resolution. Fields: submissionid - unique submission indentifier (there were multipel submissiosn per sample site and only one was selected) sampleid - unique sample site identifier submission_item_id - unique pixel identifier enhancement - legend codes long_description - name for each legend code sub_pixel_x, sub_pixel_y - coordinates of each pixel in lat/lon Funded by WRI.
