Cinema market share of domestic and foreign animated movies in China 2015-2021

In 2021, more than two-thirds of the box office revenue generated by animated films in Chinese cinemas came from domestically made films, a steep rise from previous years. In comparison, imported animated movies contributed more than 70 percent of the animated movie box office gross in China in 2017. The rise of the Chinese animated film industry and the reduction of foreign movie imports fueled this change in market share distributions.
