Catalogue of preventive and mitigation technological and non-technological solutions for groundwater contamination

The catalogue clasiffies the technological (TS) and non-technological (NTS) soltuions into five blocks according to the nature of their application. The database describes the objectives and methodology of each NTS, as well as practical factors such as the type of requirements for its implementation related to the legal framework, to whom the responsibility, spatial and temporal scale, and provides references for further information. NTSs aim to prevent groundwater pollution caused by hazardous events in future. The scope of the NTS is to reach maximum environmental protection standards by avoiding releasing pollutants or minimising the probability of occurrence of any hazardous event and /or its harmful effects. This work defines NTS as holistic multidisciplinary and strategic measures ranging from reviewing policy and regulations, incorporating good practices in the functioning of water authorities, promoting water governance, optimising economic instruments, adapting social approaches, and any other action for better environmental health protection.
