Effect of Brain Gym Exercise on Attention and Working Memory in University Students with Short-Video Dependence: A Randomised Feasibility Trial

The uploaded files present the results of the feasibility study to investigate the effect of brain gym exercises on attention and working memory in short video dependent university students. 24 participants were recruited and randomised into 2 groups (1:1 allocation) by computer generated randomisation. The "baseline" excel file demonstrates the demographic details of the patient with their Short Video Dependence score (screening tool- Short Video Dependence scale, Jiang et al. 2025). The "result_feasibility" excel file demonstrates the pre and post intervention scores of the intervention. Group 1 received Brain Gym Exercises + Conventional Training Protocol, while Group 2 received Conventional Training Protocol both for 3days/ week for 4 weeks. Outcomes were ASRS (Attention Self- report score), Sustained Attention by Mackworth Clock Test error percentage (Computerised), Selective Attention by Stroop Test (Computerised), Working Memory by Digit Span Tests -maximum digit recall (Computerised). All computerised tests were executed using Psytoolkit 3.7.0 website. The post score interpretation- Lower scores denotes improvement for all tests, except Digit span test in which higher scores denotes improvement in cognitive function. The change score column represents the difference in scores (in positive direction- improvement). Change score analysis showed that participants in Group 1 improved significantly better than in Group 2.
