The isolation of Salmonella enterica subsp. IIIa serovar 18:z4:z23:- from retail meat and animals has increased in recent years. The number of clinical cases caused by this serovar has also increased. The PFGE pattern of animal isolates match the human clinical isolates and indicates they are clonal. We sequence some of these isolates to study the genetics of this organism.
