Enhanced methanogenesis using natural minerals in high temperature shale oil reservoir production waters.

In this study, we explored the efficacy of using natural iron rock and natural olivine as an alternative electron donor for the microbiological reduction of carbon dioxide into Biomethane in oil reservoir production waters under strictly anaerobic conditions. Biomethane production was evaluated using a basal medium inoculated with production water and direct production water to compare the methane production rates between natural iron rock and natural olivine rock at 45 C over a 60-day day.
