NRS-20950 | The Education Gazette / Inside Education

This series consists of Education Gazettes published by the Department of Public Instruction and its successor agencies.  The original purpose of the publication was to promote the interests of teachers and public education throughout the colony. (1)The first issue was published in June 1891 under the title 'The New South Wales Educational Gazette'. (2) From 1907 to 1914 it was published as 'The Public Instruction Gazette', and from 1915 onwards as 'The Education Gazette'. In 1970 it was renamed 'Inside Education'.Until 1970, the Gazette contained information regarding the appointment of teachers, including promotions and transfers, as well as departmental and curriculum-related information. This included circulars and instructions, as well as photos and articles supplied by various teachers and schools. In 1970 the nature of the Gazette changed. From August 1970, it was published as 'Inside Education' and contained only departmental and curriculum-related content. The notices regarding teachers' appointments were removed and instead published in the 'Education Gazette'.(4) 'Inside Education' continued to be published monthly until 1972 when it became a quarterly published in March, June, September and November. It ceased publication at the end of 1977.The records are arranged chronologically and are in the form of bound volumes, with all publications for the year bound within the one volume. There is a subject index ('Supplement') for the year at the beginning of each volume, except for those published between 1964-1970 and 1972 onwards.The volumes in this series were transferred to State Records from the Department of Education's History Unit where they were used as a reference set. 本系列馆藏为新南威尔士州公共教育厅及其后续承继机构发行的《教育公报》系列出版物。该刊物创刊宗旨为助力全殖民地教师群体与公共教育事业的发展。
(1) 1891年6月发行创刊号，刊名为《新南威尔士教育公报》（The New South Wales Educational Gazette）。
(2) 1907年至1914年间，该刊以《公共教育公报》（The Public Instruction Gazette）之名发行；1915年起更名为《教育公报》（The Education Gazette），1970年再次更名为《教育内参》（Inside Education）。
1970年以前，该公报刊载内容涵盖教师任免（含职级晋升与岗位调动）、部门行政事务及课程相关资讯，其中包括各类通函、指令，同时收录各地教师与学校供稿的照片及文章。
1970年，该刊物的定位与刊载内容发生重大调整：自1970年8月起，该刊正式更名为《教育内参》（Inside Education），仅保留部门事务与课程相关内容。原刊载的教师任免类通知被移除，转而刊登于《教育公报》（The Education Gazette）。(4)
《教育内参》仍以月刊形式发行至1972年，此后改为季刊，发行月份固定为每年3月、6月、9月与11月，并于1977年底停刊。
本系列馆藏按时间顺序编排，以合订本形式保存，每年度的所有刊物合订为一册。除1964年至1970年及1972年之后出版的合订本外，每册卷首均附当年度主题索引（补编）。
本系列合订本由新南威尔士州教育部历史研究室移交至新南威尔士州档案馆保存，此前该室曾将其作为参考资料集使用。(3) 该馆藏并不完整，现存最早的公报可追溯至1895年6月。
