A method for preparing a fiber-containing substance suspension is disclosed. The method comprises fibrillating and deflaking fibers from the suspension by dispersing. During dispersing， a flow of the substance suspension is generated in a container having an annular displacement element. The flow is directed downward inside the substance suspension， outward toward an outer area of the substance suspension in a lower area of the substance suspension， and upward in the outer area of the substance suspension. The flow that is directed upward in the outer area of the substance suspension is sent through an annular gap formed between the inside surface of the wall forming the container and the annular displacement element. In this way， the flow that is directed upward in the outer area of the substance suspension is sent physically separated from the flow that is directed downward inside the substance suspension by the annular displacement element.
