These registers contain a summary record of all conflicting applications for Crown Land in the Land District of Tumbarumba, kept by the Tumbarumba Land Office.These registers were used to record when more than one application had been made for the same portion of Crown Land. All applicants for the land were placed in a ballot to find the successful applicant for the farm or block of land. The register records information such as the name of applicant, the number of the Homestead Selection area, the number of the Settlement Lease area, the date on which the application was actually received, and the blocks or farm applied for.The top of each page in the registers read: "The following conflicting applications were received on the (date), and a ballot was held to determine the priority of such of them as had not been withdrawn before the ballot. The ballot proceedings were commenced at (time) o'clock and were terminated at (time) o'clock on the date mentioned." Each page is a different day recording the applications for the ballot on the particular date. Applications are numbered from 1 on each new day.The register records information such as the number of the marble, name of applicant, nature of application - whether annual lease, conditional purchase, special lease etc., area applied for, result of ballot, number of application, whether withdrawn before or after ballot, amount of deposit and survey fee lodged, signature of applicant receiving refund of deposit and survey fee on withdrawal of application, and any further remarks.
