Streptomyces silvensis is an industrial producer of nonribosomal peptides that act as antagonists of the human oxytocin and vasopressin receptors. We sequenced the genome of Streptomyces silvensis ATCC 53525 and demonstrated that this prodigious organism possesses a number of additional biosynthetic gene clusters and could be a promising source for further genome-guided drug discovery efforts.
